A Day Full of Pet Therapy and Reminiscence

This month, residents at Darcy House had the opportunity to engage with some furry and feathered friends during an exciting animal experience visit. The event took place in the comfort of our residential main living room and featured a delightful mix of creatures, including a snake, a rabbit, a duck, and a silky chicken. The visit was an immediate hit with our residents, providing both a fun and meaningful opportunity for connection and conversation.

Many of our residents have previously owned animals, so this was a wonderful opportunity for them to reminisce about their beloved pets and share fond memories or funny stories about animals that once brought warmth to their homes. Pets play an important role in an individual's life, providing companionship, comfort and joy. This doesn't stop as they age, and pet therapy is one of our residents' favourite activities here at Darcy House.

Throughout their visit, our residents were delighted to interact with the animals. We all came together whilst they shared stories about pets they had cared for - some even spoke of beloved animals they had raised on farms, while others recalled the comforting presence of household pets. The visit created both a sense of nostalgia and a bonding experience as residents came together to reminisce about their furry companions from the past. The smiles, laughter, and chatter filled the room and the impact from the day was felt for hours following.

For our team, it was heartwarming to see the residents’ faces light up as they petted and spoke to the animals. We went round to all of our residents, ensuring everybody had the opportunity to get involved if they wanted to. Some of our residents petted and fed the rabbit, whilst others were brave enough to hold the snake!

We look forward to hosting similar events in the future and continuing to offer experiences that enrich the lives of our residents. These activities help create the homely, warm atmosphere we aim to nurture at Darcy House, where every resident feels valued and cared for, every day.
