Embracing Love and New Life at Darcy House

valentines treats

This month at Darcy House, we embraced the theme of love and new beginnings with a heartwarming Valentine’s Day celebration and a very special visit from Marmalade, a baby Valais Blacknose lamb from a local farm in Newhaven, Buxton. The day was filled with creativity, laughter, and a chance to experience something special in our community.

Our celebrations began with an arts & crafts session where residents designed and decorated Valentine’s Day cards for cherished people in their lives. Some wrote messages to family members, while others made cards for friends within the home, all whilst reminiscing on past Valentine's Days including sharing stories of cherished memories and lifelong love. It was clear that warmth and kindness were spread throughout the day and had a lasting effect on both our residents and the team.

Later in the day, we had a brilliant surprise as we had a visit from Marmalade, the 13-day-old lamb. She had a fluffy coat and sweet nature and was so excited to meet all of our residents. Many of our residents had never been up close to a lamb before which made the experience even more special. They learned about her rare breed, the Valais Blacknose, and had the chance to bottle-feed and stroke her which was a moment that brought out beaming smiles.

Beyond the joy of meeting Marmalade, the visit sparked heartfelt conversations among residents about the animals they had kept in the past. Stories of beloved family pets, farmyard animals, and childhood memories flowed easily, creating a shared sense of nostalgia and camaraderie.

The day ended with a beautifully prepared Valentine’s dinner, where residents gathered around to enjoy a delicious meal with their friends. It was the perfect way to round off a day filled with love, laughter, and new experiences.

Marmalade may have only been with us for a short while, but she certainly left a lasting impression on everyone at Darcy House. Her visit reminded us all of the simple joys of life—connection, kindness, and the comfort of shared moments. We look forward to welcoming more special guests in the future and continuing to create wonderful memories together.

At Darcy House, our residents' well-being is at the heart of everything we do and we don't only look for fun activities for residents to take part in but also ways for them to engage with each other and create a true sense of community.
