Darcy House Care Home Celebrates Grand Opening & Staff Training

Darcy House Care Home proudly celebrated the arrival of our first residents during the week of July 14th, marking a significant milestone in the community’s journey. The grand opening was a joyous occasion filled with traditional festivities, heartfelt welcomes and a strong sense of community.

The festivities began with a traditional roast beef dinner and culminated in the cutting of a large, homemade celebration cake. Each new resident received a personalised welcome gift basket, thoughtfully prepared with treats and gifts tailored to their preferences. The highlight of the day was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where resident Ray had the honor of officially declaring Darcy House open.

This celebration was not only a warm welcome to the new residents but also a culmination of months of dedicated preparation and training by the Darcy House staff. In June, the team completed their first wave of training, which included a unique physical exercise designed to deepen their empathy and understanding of residents’ experiences. Staff members role-played as both carers and residents, using blindfolds to simulate sensory impairments and truly 'feel' what it is like to place one’s trust in a carer.

To further foster a positive and supportive work environment, Darcy House has introduced an Employee of the Month programme. This initiative recognises outstanding staff members who go above and beyond in their roles.

The first recipient of this honour was Mike, who was celebrated for his exceptional dedication and kindness. Colleagues who nominated Mike praised his unwavering commitment to the residents and his helpful, positive attitude.

As Darcy House continues to grow and welcome more residents, the focus remains on maintaining high standards of care and fostering a strong sense of community. The Employee of the Month programme is just one of the many ways Darcy House aims to acknowledge and encourage the hard work and dedication of its staff.
